Seamless Steel Siding, Formed On Site

Seamless Steel Siding Made for Dallas-Fort Worth Weather

Seamless steel siding is steel lap siding roll-formed in your driveway into one continuous panel per course, cut to the exact length of each wall. With no butt joints to leak or buckle and a PVDF finish built for Texas UV, it stands up to DFW hail and 100-degree summers better than vinyl or painted boards.

What Is Seamless Steel Siding?

Seamless steel siding is pre-finished steel coil shaped into lap siding by a portable roll-former parked at your home, with each panel cut to run the full length of the wall it covers. Vinyl and fiber cement come in stock lengths of about 12 feet, so a 40-foot wall needs three or more joints in every course. A seamless course has none.

It is still lap siding. Each course overlaps the one below to shed water, and it hangs over house wrap and flashed openings like any well-built wall. What changes is the joints, and the joints are where conventional siding usually fails first.

How is seamless siding formed on site?

  1. We measure every wall, opening and corner and plan each course.
  2. A trailer-mounted roll-former turns a coil of pre-painted steel into panels, cut to length in your driveway.
  3. Panels hang on slotted nailing hems, fastened so they can slide as the steel expands and contracts.
  4. Corners, window wraps and trim are bent from the same coil, so every color matches.

Why Do Seams Matter on a Texas House?

Seams are where siding lets water in and where it moves, buckles and opens up, and North Texas weather works those weak points hard.

  • Wind-driven rain. DFW thunderstorms commonly drop 1 to 2 inches of rain an hour, and every butt joint is a path for it to get behind the cladding.
  • Movement. Siding grows in afternoon sun and shrinks overnight. Overlaps and caulked joints are where that shows up as gaps and buckles.
  • Wind and hail. Loose ends at joints give wind a lifting edge and hail a corner to crack. A continuous panel has far fewer free edges.

Seamless does not mean the wall skips water management. We still install house wrap, flash every window and penetration and leave drainage paths. Removing the seams takes away the most common failure point.

How Does Seamless Steel Compare With Conventional Lap Siding?

Seamless steel has far fewer joints than vinyl or fiber cement, needs no repaint cycle and takes hail without cracking. It typically costs more than vinyl up front and sits in a similar range to fiber cement.

How Does Seamless Steel Siding Handle DFW Hail, Heat and Clay?

Better than any lap siding we install, with one honest caveat: very large hail can dent steel. Here is how each North Texas stress plays out.

Does seamless steel siding stand up to hail?

Texas has led the country in major hail events for 11 straight years, and on April 28, 2026, preliminary reports put hail at up to 4.5 inches near Cresson and Godley, with wind-driven 3-inch stones breaking house windows. Hail that size marks almost any cladding. The difference is what happens next: brittle vinyl cracks open and fiber cement chips, while steel typically dents and stays sealed. Ask any installer which gauge you are getting. Lower numbers are thicker, and 24-gauge steel is roughly 28 percent thicker than 26-gauge. A foam backer and an embossed woodgrain texture make dents harder to create and harder to see.

One insurance note: UL 2218 Class 4 ratings and the premium credits the Texas Department of Insurance describes apply to roofs, not siding. Steel siding won’t usually lower your premium; it lowers what the next storm costs you. For the roof side of that equation, see metal roofing.

Is steel siding good in Texas heat?

DFW averages about 20 days a year at or above 100°F, and summer UV index readings of 9 to 10 are routine. Steel doesn’t soften, so it won’t sag on a sun-baked west wall. The finish does the UV work: PVDF (Kynar 500-type) coatings hold color and resist chalking far longer than polyester or SMP paints. In one side-by-side comparison on metal roofs, the SMP finish looked visibly faded at 8 years while the PVDF finish still looked new. Long panels do grow in the heat, so we fasten through the center of slotted hems and leave room at corners and trim.

What about clay soil, freezes and HOAs?

Expansive clay under much of the Metroplex moves slabs and wall framing slightly with every wet and dry season. Caulked joints crack first, while interlocking steel panels on slotted fastening tolerate small movement without opening up. The same detail handles cold snaps like January 2024, when DFW stayed at or below freezing for 89 straight hours. On HOAs: Texas Property Code §202.011 protects certain impact-resistant roofing shingles from HOA bans but says nothing about siding, so we prepare a complete architectural-committee submittal with samples and product data.

What Does Seamless Steel Siding Cost in DFW (as of 2026)?

Seamless steel siding typically costs $5.50 to $14.50 per square foot installed in Dallas-Fort Worth as of 2026, averaging around $9.50. Industry cost guides put a 30-by-40-foot house at roughly $13,500 to $44,000. These are typical ranges, not quotes. What moves your number:

  • Wall area and height, since two-story walls need staging and more labor.
  • Tear-off of old siding, plus any sheathing or house wrap repairs found underneath.
  • Windows, doors, vents and outside corners, each of which needs trim.
  • Steel gauge and finish: heavier steel and PVDF cost more than thinner steel with SMP paint.
  • Options such as a foam backer, board-and-batten accents and matching soffit, fascia and gutters.

Your written estimate itemizes every line, so you can compare it with any other bid.

When Should You Choose Seamless Steel Over Other Siding?

Choose seamless steel when you want the fewest joints, no repaint schedule and the best hail tolerance of any lap siding, and you plan to stay long enough for that to pay back.

  • Choose seamless steel if your walls take open sun and hail, you are done repainting or replacing warped panels, or you want matching steel soffit and fascia and seamless gutters from one crew.
  • Consider fiber cement if you want a painted plank look and don’t mind repainting; our siding services page covers both.
  • Consider vinyl if budget decides it and the walls are shaded and sheltered.

What Dallas-Fort Worth Homeowners Say About Texas Metal Panels

Seamless Steel Siding FAQ

Quick answers to what DFW homeowners ask most about seamless steel. For broader siding questions, see our full siding FAQ.

How long does seamless steel siding last?

Decades. A galvanized or Galvalume-coated steel core doesn’t rot, swell or feed termites, and a PVDF finish resists the fading and chalking that age other siding in Texas sun, so its life is usually set by physical damage rather than weather wear. There is no single industry lifespan rating for steel siding, so judge it by the coil and finish warranties plus the installer’s workmanship warranty. Ours is a lifetime material and workmanship warranty.

Is seamless siding worth it compared with vinyl?

For most DFW homeowners staying more than a few years, yes. Vinyl costs less up front, typically $3.50 to $9.50 per square foot installed versus $5.50 to $14.50 for seamless steel as of 2026, but vinyl cracks in hail, can warp on sunny walls and fades under UV. Steel avoids those failures and the joints where vinyl usually leaks. If you are selling soon or the walls are shaded and sheltered, vinyl can still make sense.

Will seamless steel siding rust in Texas?

Not under normal conditions. The steel is protected by a metallic coating (galvanized zinc or Galvalume aluminum-zinc), a primer and the factory finish, and inland DFW is an easy environment for coated steel compared with salt-spray coastal sites. The spots to watch are deep scratches that expose bare steel and cut edges, which we keep tucked into trim. Touch up any scratch that reaches bare metal and keep sprinkler spray off the walls.

Can a damaged seamless panel be repaired?

Yes. Because each course is one piece, we replace the damaged course instead of patching it: we unlock it, form a new full-length panel on site and lock it back in. PVDF finishes fade very slowly, so a replacement panel usually blends with the original wall even years later. Hail damage is generally an insurance matter, so we document it for your claim before any work starts.

Who installs seamless steel siding in Dallas-Fort Worth?

Relatively few DFW contractors, because it takes a portable roll-former, coil stock and crews trained to handle long panels. We form and install it across the Metroplex. Whoever you hire, ask whether they own the roll-former, which gauge and finish they use, how they fasten for expansion and what the written workmanship warranty covers, and confirm a local address and proof of insurance.
